Auto Kills Area Man Near Knox Last Friday Morning

An Albany county man was killed early last Friday when he was struck by a car while walking in Knox.

The victim was Millard Stevens, 63, Star Route, Altamont, a laborer employed by the State Highway Department.

The driver of the car, Raymond G. Morrow, who lives at the Berne Hotel, Berne, told Cpl. J. J. Buckley, BCI, and Trooper L. E. Schermerhorn he was blinded by the morning sun and did not see the man until it was too late to avoid striking him.

Mr. Morrow, an employee of the Voorhessville Army Depot, was drving to work at the time of the accident with Jay C. Francis, Star Route, Altamont, a fellow employee.

The driver said Mr. Stevens was walking on the highway in the same direction the car was traveling. The accident occurred near Mr. Stevens' home approximately a mile and a half east of Knox.

The body was taken to Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont.

Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Stevens.
