MARSHALL STEVENS
KNOX - Fittingly on the last day of one of the coldest months in history, a long line of friends and customers braved the cold Monday evening to pay respects to Marshall Stevens, whose name is best known on the trucks that deliver oil for furnaces throughout our area.
Mr. Stevens, 78, of Route 156 died Friday (January 28, 1994) at St. Peter's Hospital following a long illness. He was born June 8, 1915, in Knox the son of Daniel Webster Stevens and Cora Quay Stevens.
He started the Marshall Stevens Petroleum Distributorship in 1938 and ran the business until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Knox Reformed Church, which he served as both elder and deacon. He also sang in the choir at one time. He was a charter , member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Co., serving as a line officer, a civil officer and a commissioner. He was a charter, member and past president of the Helderberg Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Helderberg Rod and Gun Club and the Berne Conservation Club.
Surviyors, include his wife, Jennie Jablonowski Stevens; three sons — Robert M. Stevens and Ronald R. Stevens, both of Knox, and Bradford A. Stevens of Canandaigua (Ontario Co.); one daughter, Marcia B. White of Syracuse; two sisters, Virginia Clickman and Margaret (Si) Stevens, both of Knox, and the late Mildred Weidman and Raymond Stevens; four grand-sons — Jason, Travis, Daniel and Tylor Stevens; three grand-daughters —Megan and Rebecca Stevens and Amber White an aunt, Eleanor Van Wormer of Guilderland Center; and several cousins.
Services were Tuesday at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. Spring burial will be in Knox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox Reformed Church or the Knox Volunteer Fire Co., both Knox, NY, 12107; or the Helderberg Ambulance Squad, P.O. Box 54, East Berne, NY 12059.

Marshall Stevens, 78, of Star Route died Friday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a long illness.
He was born in Knox and established Marshall Stevens Petroleum Distributorship in 1938. He was still active in the business at the time of death. Mr. Stevens was a member, elder and deacon of the Knox Reformed Church and sang in the choir at one time. He was a charter member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Co. and a line officer, civil officer and commissioner at one time. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont, with burial in Knox Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 6-9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Knox Reformed Church, the Helderberg Ambulance Squad, or to the Knox Volunteer Fire Co.
