George A. Hannay was born in Voorheesville, NY on May 7, 1920, son of the late Clifford Beman Hannay (Beaman) and Hazel Hannay. His brothers and sister were:

George was a manufacturer, President (1965-1990) and then Chairman of the Board (1990-1997) of Hannay Reels, Inc., which was established by his father in 1933. He held several patents on the design and manufacture of reels for hose and cable. He was a founding member and officer of the Petroleum Equipment Institute.

WESTERLO -- George A. Hannay, 77 years, of Westerlo, NY, died at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY on November 10, 1997. He was born in Voorheesville, NY on May 7, 1920, son of the late Clifford and Hazel Hannay. George was a manufacturer, President (1965-1990) and then Chairman of the Board (1990-1997) of Hannay Reels, Inc., which was established by his father in 1933. He held several patents on the design and manufacture of reels for hose and cable. He was a founding member and officer of the Petroleum Equipment Institute. He was known for his generosity. He served the community as a deacon and trustee of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, a member of the Berne-Knox Westerlo School Board, a Justice of the Peace and a Life Member of the Westerlo Fire Company. He was also a Gideon, and he served on the Boards of the Sacandaga Bible Conference and Denver Seminary.

Surviving are his devoted children; Ruth Hannay of Westerlo, NY, Roger Hannay and his wife, Sherley of Westerlo, NY, David Hannay and his wife, Margaret of Westerlo, NY, Deborah VanDerMolen and her husband, Edward of Wheaton, IL and Sarah Schoof and her husband, Ronald of Kijabe, Kenya, East Africa. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Frances; a brother, Dwight; a daughter, Loraine and by his beloved wife, Emma 'Mimi' (Rogers) Hannay, who died on April 20, 1997. The burial will take place in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery on December 1 at 1:00 p.m. The memorial service, with the Rev. Donald Lyon officiating, will be on December 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. Those who desire are invited to make a contribution in his memory to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, PO Box 130, Westerlo, NY 12193.
