John Joslin was born in Dutchess County, NY on June 7, 1795, a son of Daniel Joslin and Mary Snyder

In Berne, at about 1821, John married Phebe McNary who was born in Dutchess County on June 7, 1801, a daughter of Martin A. McNary and Betsey Cary. They had one known child:
- Martin A. Joslin born on April 20, 1837
Phebe McNary Joslin died on November 7, 1856 and John married secondly, the widow Mary A. Cass.
