Earl J. Sturgess was born in Knox, the son of Lewis T. Sturgess and the late Jennie C. Lewis. His siblings were:

Earl Sturgess was a retired employee of the New York State Thruway Authority. He was a charter member of the former Helderberg Grange and a member of the former United Methodist Church, both located in Township.

Earl Sturgess married Miss Erna I. Weatherwax ( - 1962), daughter of Mrs. Nettie Weatherwax of 140 Washington Avenue, Albany. Their children were:
- Lewis W. Sturgess of Unadilla (2013) - originally RD #1, town of Knox. Veteran of the Korean conflict (1953 – 1955)
- Dr. Jeanette S. Lamb of Nixa, Mo.

EARL J. STURGESS
Earl J. Sturgess of 20 Maple Ave;, Unadilla (Otsego Co.), formerly of Knox, died Tuesday, Dec. 16 (1986) at the hospital in Sidney (Delaware Co.). He was 87.
Born in Knox, Mr. Sturgess was a retired employee of the New York State Thruway Authority. He was a charter member of the former Helderberg Grange and a member of the former United Methodist Church, both located in Township.
He had also served the Town of Knox as town clerk and historian.
His wife, Erna Weatherwax, died in 1982.
Survivors include a son, Lewis W. Sturgess of Unadilla; a daughter, Dr. Jeanette S. Lamb of Nixa, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Howard) Schoonmaker of Berne; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a nephew and several nieces. He was also the brother of the late Victor C. and Keith W. Sturgess. Funeral and committal services were held Sunday, Dec. 21 at Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla. Burial was in Knox Cemetery.

Sturgess -- Weatherwax
The marriage of Miss Erna I. Weatherwax, daughter of Mrs. Nettie Weatherwax of 140 Washington Avenue, Albany, and Earl J. Sturgess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sturgess of Altamont, took place Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Madison Avenue Reformed church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Henry A. Vruwink.
The bride, who wore a gown of Alice blue georgette with slippers and hat to match, was attended by her sister, Miss Ethel Weatherwax, who wore dusty rose georgette with slippers and hat in matching shade. Both wore shoulder corsages of roses and lilies of the valley. After a wedding trip to Buffalo Mr. and Mrs. Sturgess will be at home in Altamont. The bride is a graduate of the Albany High school and Mr. Sturgess attended the Altamont High School.
