Birth

Michael Barckley was born in Guilderland, Albany Co., NY on May 17, 1758, the son of Eberhard Buercklin (1710 – 1788) and Maria Margareta Hoss (1720 – 1797).[1]. Brothers and sisters born before 1756 were born in Weil, Im Schoenbuch, Wuerttemberg, Germany, so his parents came to America between 1750 and 1756[1]. His brothers and sisters were:

  • Eberhard Barkley (15 Oct 1740 - 30 Dec 1803)[1] He was a loyalist and served with Butler's Rangers.
  • Gottlieb "Jacob" Barckley (8 Oct 1742 - Abt 1814)[1]
  • Christian Barkley (25 Dec 1745 - Bef 22 Oct 1830)[1]
  • Joachim (Joseph) Barckley (20 May 1747 - 1814 )[1][2]
  • Johann Jakob "Job" Barkley (13 Jul 1748 - )[1]
  • Heinrich Adam Barckley (11 Jul 1750 - Abt 1799)[1]
  • Andes "Andrew" Barkley (30 Nov 1756 - )[1]
  • Johann Peter Barkley (24 Apr 1760 - 1850)[1]

Education

Occupation

This family (Barckley) has for several generations been prominent in the history of the town of Guilderland and Albany county, where the pioneer of the family settled prior to 1790. Michael Barckley, born in Germany, came when a young man to America, perhaps then the United States, settled on a farm in Guilderland, where he married and died in middle lire. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed church.[3] Note: The Gittins Family Tree is well documented with local church records and states Michael was born in Guilderland.

Marriage & Children

Michael Barckley married Gertrude Zeh (14 Apr 1768 - 19 Mar 1850) on June 2, 1790 at the Schenectady Reformed Church, Schenectady, Schenectady Co., NY. She was the daughter of Hendrick Zeh (1740 - ) and Maria Schaeffer[1]. Their children were:

  • Everhardt M. Barckley (Evert) (23 Sep 1791 - 1816) [1]
  • Christopher Barckley (23 Jul 1794 - )[1]
  • Anna Barckley (9 Jan 1799 - )[1]
  • Catharina Barckley (3 Sep 1800 - 1881) [1]

Death

Michael Barckley died March 20, 1839 in Knowersville, Albany Co., NY[1]
