John F. Allen 3rd was born on October 24, 1836, the son of John Allen, (1812-1883) and Catherine M. Bellar (12/27/1815-10/25/1875).

John F. Allen 3rd married 1) Antoinette Fairlee (3/7/1837 - 10/27/1864), and 2) Jane C. (1839 - 3/6/1912). John's children were:
- Elma Allen, born 8/15/1859, d. 7/5/1861
- Belvia Allen, born 8/13/1860
- Newton Allen, born 10/14/1863
- Fred Allen, born 8/21/1867, died 7/29/1895
- Mamee Allen, born 1/12/1869, died 2/14/1878
- Elizabeth B. Allen, born 2/14/1870
Death
He died April 21, 1902, and is buried in Knox Cemetery in Knox.
