Occupation
Mr. Saddlemire was a bus driver for the Guilderland Central School District for over 20 years, retiring in 1978. He was one of the founders and past fire chief of Knox Volunteer Fire Co. and past president of the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Co. Mr. Saddlemire was a member of the Guilderland Lodge, 2480, BPOE, a member of the Lynnwood Reformed Church in Guilderland and a former member of the Knox Reformed Church.

Ernest Saddlemire married Helen V. Saddlemire in 1972. Their children were:

Ernest Saddlemire died April 4, 1998 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home after a long illness.

GUILDERLAND — Ernest Saddlemire, 82, of Guilderland, died Saturday at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 11, 1915 in Knox, son of the late Claude and Myrtle Tousend Saddlemire, and had lived in Guilderland for over 30 years. Mr. Saddlemire was a bus driver for the Guilderland Central School District for over 20 years, retiring in 1978. He was one of the founders and past fire chief of Knox Volunteer Fire Co. and past president of the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Co. Mr. Saddlemire was a member of the Guilderland Lodge, 2480, BPOE, a member of the Lynnwood Reformed Church in Guilderland and a former member of the Knox Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Helen V. Saddlemire; two sons, Louis Saddlemire of Knox and David Saddlemire of Vermont; a step-son and step daughter Richard Pikuland Eileen Pikul-Bass, both of Guilderland; three brothers, George Saddlemire of Altamont, Ogden Saddlemire of Westerlo, and John Saddlemire of Knox; four sisters: Jennie Cramer and Nellie Agosta of Saratoga, Martha Vass of Florida and Edna Saddlemire of Albany; three step granddaughters; two granddaughters, Erika and Leanne Saddlemire of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews. ,
Two sisters, Lilemae and Rose Saddlemire, are deceased.
Funeral services Were Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home in Colonie, with the Rev. William deFofest officiatin. Interment was at Knox Cemetery.

Louis Saddlemlre Dinner March 4
The Knox Republican Committee will sponsor a testimonial dinner on March 4 at Scholz-Zwicklbauer's Hofbrau to honor Louis Saddlemire for community and governmental service, according to committee chairman Robert Whipple.
Mr. Saddlemire, presently serving as chairman of the town's newly formed youth commission, is a former town councilman.
The lifelong Knox resident has been active in community affairs all of his adult life. After graduating from Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School in 1960, he became a member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Co., holding line office and serving as fire district secretary for the past 12 years.
When the town celebrated its 150th year of incorporation in 1972, Mr. Saddlemire served as co-chairman with Robert Stevens of the sesquicentennial committee which planned and carried out events commemorating the town's past.
The committee's efforts led to formation of the Knox Historical Society. Mr. Saddlemire has served as secretary and trustee of the society for several years, and played a key role in the restoration of the former Saddlemire farmhouse, now the Knox Historical Museum.
In 1973, he became interested in local government, and was elected to a four-year term on the Knox Town Board. His sevice on the board was characterized by a conservative approach to town progress and insistance that all alternatives be examined before voting to spending money.
The Knox Youth Commission which Mr. Saddlemire now heads is charged with completing and managing the recreation area behind the Knox Town Hall.
