Diane S. Stevens Shafer

KNOX—Diane Stevens Shafer was a mother, a homemaker, a cook, and a lifetime Knox resident.

Mrs. Shafer died on Monday, April 24,2006, at her home after a long and brave struggle with cancer. She was 62.

A daughter of Raymond L. and Emma Bunzy Stevens, she was born and raised in Knox and graduated from Berne-Knox High School. Mrs. Shafer was a member of the Knox Reformed Church for many years before she began worshiping at the Quaker Street Bible Church in the mid-eighties.

She was a full-time mother and homemaker until she went to work as a cook for Father Young's Altamont Program at LaSalette, also in the mid-eighties. She retired in 1997.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by her husband, David G. Shafer, whom she married on April 28, 1962.

She is also survived by her son David Scott Shafer and his friend, Yvonne, of Township; her daughter Debra D. Miller and her husband, David, of Township; her daughter Carrie L. Shafer, of Berne; her son Ryan Shafer and his wife, Jackie, of Howes Cave; her grandson Steven Shafer and his mother, Marty; her granddaughters Jennifer Miller, Olivia Sanger, and Julianna Shafer.

She is also survived by her mother, Emma Stevens, of Knox; her sister Shirley Willsie and her husband, Glen, of East Berne; her sister Margaret LaGrange and her husband, Wayne, of Westerlo; her sister Dawn Coffey and her husband, Ken, of Knox; her sister Patricia Wigger, of Blufftown, S.C.; her sister Ruth Horton and her husband, Bill, of Clearwater, Fla.; her brother David Stevens and his wife, Charlene, of Altamont; her brother Thomas Stevens and his wife, Debbie, of Glenmont; her brother R. Michael Stevens and his wife Joann, of Gallupville; and many nieces and nephews, seven grandnieces and grandnephews, and loving in-laws and friends.

Her brother Richard Stevens died in 1962 and her father, Raymond. L. Stevens, died in 1977.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Quaker Street Bible Church on Route 7 in Quaker Street. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. KNOX -- Diane Stevens Shafer, 62, of Township Road, Knox, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, April 24, 2006 at her home after a long and brave struggle with cancer.

A daughter of Raymond L. and Emma Bunzy Stevens, she was born and raised in Knox and graduated from Berne Knox High School. Diane was a member of the Knox Reformed Church for many years before she began worshiping at Quaker Street Bible Church in the mid-80s. Diane was a full-time mother and homemaker until she went to work as a cook for Father Young's Altamont Program at LaSalette in the mid-80s, retiring in 1997. Diane was the loving and beloved wife of David G. Shafer, having married on April 28, 1962.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, David Scott Shafer and friend Yvonne of Township, Debra D. (David) Miller of Township, Carrie L. Shafer of Berne and Ryan (Jackie) Shafer of Howes Cave; four grandchildren, Steven Shafer and his mother Marty, Jennifer Miller, Olivia Sanger and Julianna Shafer. She is also survived by her mother, Emma Stevens of Knox; sisters, Shirley (Glen) Willsie of East Berne, Margaret (Wayne) LaGrange of Westerlo, Dawn (Ken) Coffey of Knox, Patricia Wigger of Bluffton, S.C., Ruth (Bill) Horton of Clearwater, Fla.; as well as three brothers, David (Charlene) Stevens of Altamont, Thomas (Debbie) Stevens of Glenmont and R. Michael (Joann) Stevens of Gallupville and many nieces, nephews, seven grandnieces and nephews; and loving in-laws and friends. Diane was predeceased by brother, Richard Stevens in 1962 and her father, Raymond L. Stevens in 1977.

Misa JoAnn B. Remmers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, John K Remmeis, Jr., of Gallupvllle, and and Michael Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs Raymond Stevens of Knox, were married on Aug 2 at St John's Lutheran church, Altamont, Rev, James K Hilton officlated.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and was attended by her sister, Diane M. Remmers, as maid qf honor. The bridesmaids were Ruth Stevens, sister of the bridegroom, Knox; Kathy Bice of Schoharie and KAthy Hurlburt of Albany, Kjm and Colleen Coffee, nieces of the bridegroom, were flower girls, and Todd La Grange, nephew of the bridegroom, was ring bearer

Cpl. Jerry D Stoddard, cousin of the bride, of U. S. Marine Corps, San Diego, Calif served as best man. Usherg were James J. Remmers, brother of the bride, Ross Willsie, nephew of the bridegroom, East Berne, and Michael Dietz of East Berne.

The bride, a graduate of Schoharie Central High school, is employed by Aetna Life Insurance Co. in Albany. The bridegroom, a graduate of Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central school, is employed by East Berne Auto Repairs.

Mr. and Mrs. Myron L. Salsburg of R.D. 2, Voorheesville, announce the engagement of their daughter Deborah, to Thomas Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stevens of Knox.

Miss Salsburg is now a student at the Berne-Knox Central school. Her fiance is a graduate of the Berne-Knox Central school, and is presently employed at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.
