Additional Remarks: After the death of his younger brother William A. Post on June 7, 1864, George enlisted as a private at age 28 in the 21st Reg. Mass. Infantry. Civil War records at the time of his enlistment say that he was living in NYC at the time and working as a laborer. Why he enlisted in a Massachusetts regiment is unknown. He transferred twice and was in service for just over one year. It appears that he never applied for his Civil War pension. |

At the end of his life he lived with his son Fletcher in Berne where they both were farmers.[7][9]
