Birth
Philip A. Stalker was born in about 1847 to Henry P. Stalker (B. Feb 19, 1811, D. May 23, 1870) and his wife Mary M. Miller[1] (B. abt 1821, D. unk).[2][3][4] Philip was one of nine children.[2][3][4]
Marriage & Children
In about 1869, Philip married a woman named Esther A. who was slightly younger than he. Unfortunately her maiden name has not been determined. Her given name Esther was recorded as Esther[5], Susan[6], Hettie[7] , Esta[8] and Hester[9] in various censuses. They had six children:
- Mary Effie Stalker (B. Nov 1870, D. after 1900)[5][6]
- William H. Stalker (B. abt 1872, D. after 1930)[5][9]
- Maggie M. Stalker (B. abt 1874)[5]
- James A. Stalker (B. abt 1877, D. probably before 1900)[5][6]
- Grace Stalker (B. Jan 1882, D. after 1900)[6]
- Addie Stalker (B. Aug 1890, D. after 1900)[6]
These children are confirmed by the 1900 Census which indicates that Philip and Esther had six children of which one probably James had died before that date.[6]

| Additional Remarks: "P.O. Address East Berne Albany Co N.Y."[1] At the age of 18, he enlisted as a Private in Company H, 25th Infantry Regiment New York on 29 Nov 1862. He transferred out of Company H, 25th Infantry Regiment New York on 1 Jul 1863 and into Company B, 13th Infantry Regiment U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps. He was discharged from Company B, 13th Infantry Regiment U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps on 18 Jul 1863. Note: Philip's older brother William H. Stalker had enlisted several months earlier in Co I of the 61st NY Infantry. He died of disease in May of 1864.

Life
Philip was probably born in Berne where his family was recorded in the 1850 US Census.[3] By 1860, they had moved to Knox where Philip at 13 years of age was no longer in school and probably already working.[4]
In the 1890, Philip and his family were living in New Scotland, Albany County, NY, where Philip was recorded in the Veterans Census as having a disability.[11] This agrees with his Civil War Pension information as it confirms he first applied for his invalid pension on June 25, 1886.[12]
In 1900 Philip was renting a farm in Bethlehem, Albany County, where he farmed. He and his wife were living with their youngest daughters Grace and Addie as well as their eldest daughter and her family and their widowed daughter in law Jannie Stalker and her young son Welton G. Stalker.[6]
In 1910 Philip owned his own farm on Fuller Road in Guilderland.[7] He and his wife were both working; he as a farmer and she taking odd jobs as a servant.[7] His youngest daughter, Addie, was living with them and working as a laundress.[7] They were rising their grandson Welton.[7]
By 1920 Philip and Esther had moved into the city of Albany.[8] Philip now 74 years of age was the caretaker for a summer camp.[8] Living with Philip and Esther was their grandson Welton, who was working as a farmer and was now married.[8]
Philip and Esther lived long lives, as in 1930 both in their 80s they were still living in Albany. Their eldest son William, who was married with children[13] and working as a farm laborer, was recorded as living with them although his family was not.[9]
Death
Philip died in Albany on July 10, 1934 at about 87 years of age.[12]

Altamont Enterprise Sept 25, 1908 reported that Mr. Philip A. Stalker and Mr. Elmer Stalker had attended the 58th birthday party of Philip's sister Margaret Stalker Quay (Mrs. Daniel Quay) in Thompson's Lake.[14]
Altamont Enterprise early March 1911 reported that Mrs. Daniel Quay and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Quay had spent Tuesday with her brother Philip Stalker near Albany as he was seriously ill with pneumonia.[15]
