Gaige - Mattice
St. John's Lutheran church, Altamont, was the setting Saturday afternoon, Aug. 11, (1951) for the marriage of Miss Alice Mattice daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Mattice of Altamont, to James W. Gaige, son of Mrs. Ismay Gaige of Altamont. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. James E. Morecraft, pastor, in the presence of the immediate families.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gaige, brother and sister-in-law of the bridegroom, were the attendants, The bride wore an orchid suit. and white hat. Her corsage was of white rosebuds. Mrs. Edward Gaige wore a yellow suit and white hat.
Her corsage was blue delphiniums. Following the ceremony the bridal party dined at Osterhout's in the Helderbergs.
After a wedding trip through the Adirondacks, Mr. and Mrs. Gaige will make their home in the Makely apartments, Maple avenue, Altamont.

ALTAMONT James W. Gaige, 67, of Lincoln Avenue died Sunday in Albany Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gaige was born in Burlington, Vt. He lived in the Altamont-Voorheesville area most of his life. He graduated from the former Altamont High School in 1945.
He was a heavy-equipment operator for the New York State Thruway Authority for 33 years before retiring in 1987. Mr. Gaige was a life member and past commander of the Helderberg American Legion Post 977. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Gaige was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Mattice Gaige; two sons, James A. Gaige of Altamont and Allan H. Gaige of Knox; four daughters, Linda Haines of Mayfield, Joyce Ableman of Medusa, Jill Hudson of West Fulton, Schoharie County, and Claudia LeClair of Altamont; two brothers, Wayne C. Gaige of Schenectady and Harry E. Gaige of Tobyhanna, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Harry "Ed" Gaige
TOBBYHANNA, Pa, Harry "Ed" Gaige,, 71, died Monday at his home in Tobyhanna, He was born July 15, 1926, in Altamont, son of the late Harry L. and Ismay Watson Gaige. He was a veteran of World War II. Following his discharge as a corporal in the U.S. Army, he worked for the U.S. Government, and was eventually transferred to the Tobyhahna Army Depot. He retired from government service after 38 years.
Mr. Gaige was a past,post commander of Boyd Hilton Post 7062 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Helderberg, Post 977, American Legion, both in Altamont.
Sufvivors include his wife, Eleanor Chesebro Gaige;three sons Jerry Gaige of Tobyhahna, Dennis Gaige of Cresco,, Pa.; and Mel Gaige of Mt. Pocono, Pa.; one brother, Wayne Gaige of Schenectady; two grandchildren, Corrin and Janis Gaige, both of Tobyhanna; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A brother, James Gaige, late of Altamont is deceased. Services will be private. Arrangements are by James M. Hook & Co. in Mt. Pocono.

Mrs. Ismay Watson Gftige. a lifelong resident of Aftsmont died Monday, Oct -5, at the builderlaud Center Nursing Home after a long }llness. Bom April 1, 1896, at Mineral Springs, she was a daughter 'of t he late Frank and Hattie Ruland Watson of Cobleskill. Her. mother died when she was six, years old, and she came to Altamont to live with her grandmother, Mrs Wilber Whipple, Later she lived for many years with. Mr. and Mrs. Montford A. Sand of Main S t . Mrs. Gaige was a member of. St John's Lutheran church, and sang m the church choir for many years.
