Robert Dunbar was born in about 1839 to Albert Dunbar (B. abt 1785) and his wife. Robert was one of four children.

Robert married Sarah M. Crawford who was born in about 1843. They had one child Albert I. Dunbar (B. 1868, D. 1916).

Robert's wife Sarah died first in 1904 and he followed in 1910. They were both buried at the Westerlo Rural Cemetery in Westerlo. When their son Albert died in 1916, he was buried with his parents at Westerlo Rural Cemetery.
