Birth

Henry Reuben Hess was born in Rensselaerville on May 18, 1840, a son of Jacob Hess and Margaret Starkweather. [1]

Occupation

Henry struck out on his own at about 1859 and worked for a grape grower. After his marriage, he bought his own property and raised his own grapes.
