Birth
Richard was born November 3, 1944 in Manhattan, New York, the son of Charles Karle and Irene Fuchs.[1]
Marriage and Children
Dr. Karle married and had two sons and one daughter--Andrew, Christopher and Samantha Karle.[1]
Education
Richard attended Stuyvesant High School. He graduated from Columbia College and Boston Medical School, part of Boston University. He then served an internship at Albany Medical Center Hospital.[1]
Occupation
Dr. Karle worked for a short time at the Greenville Medical Center with Dr. M. Kosich and then opened his own practice in the town of Westerlo.[1]
Military Service
During the Vietnam conflict, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy when the call was sent out for doctors. He served at the St. Albans Naval Hospital and was discharged as a lieutenant.[1]
Death
Richard died suddenly February 23, 1992.[1]

Westerlo--Dr. Richard Karle, 47, of East Durham, died suddenly February 23. He was born in Manhattan, New York on November 3, 1944, son of Charles and Irene Fuchs Karle. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School. During high school, he was very active in the YMCA and traveled to Holland as a YMCA delegate to the World Youth Conference. He graduated from Columbia College and Boston Medical School, part of Boston University. He then served an internship at Albany Medical Center Hospital. During the Vietnam conflict, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy when the call was sent out for doctors. He served at the St. Albans Naval Hospital and was discharged as a lieutenant. He returned to his residency and worked for a short time at the Greenville Medical Center with Dr. M. Kosich. He then opened his own practice in the town of Westerlo, where he was practicing at the time of his death. He was also very active in the Greenville Rotary Club and the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company and was the town of Greenville public health officer. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday February 29 at 11 a.m. from the Greenville Norton Hill United Methodist Church in Norton Hill with the Rev. Thomas Carney officiating. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the rescue squads that serve the towns of Durham, Westerlo or Greenville. Surviving are his parents, Charles and Irene Fuchs Karle of Westerlo; two sons, Andrew Karle of Poughkeepsie and Christopher Karle of Stuyvesant; one daughter, Samantha Karle, also of Stuyvesant; a sister, Joan Varner of Evanston, Illinois, and a very dear friend, Eileen Berlin of East Durham.
