Henry E. Briggs was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High school, class of 1924, and held B.A. and M.A. degrees from New York State College for Teachers.

Occupation

Henry Briggs began his career in education as a teaching principal and then joined the science faculty of the Bethlehem Central School district. For the past 29 years he was district superintendent of the Second Supervisory District of Albany county, which since 1963 has also included 80 percent of the Schoharie county public school

Henry Ellsworth Briggs, of Delmar, and Miss Henrietta Lucille Hannay, of Westerlo, were married on Thursday, June 30, (1932) at 8:30 p.m.

Retired Superintendent of Schools Dies at 61

Henry E. Briggs, 61, Westerlo, an educator who served and supervised schools in Albany and Schoharie counties for the last 36 years, died in Albany Medical Center hospital Mar. 9 (1966).

Mr. Briggs was born in Albany Jan. 10, 1905, son of the late George and Estella Holly Briggs.

He was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High school, class of 1924, and held B.A. and M.A. degrees from New York State College for Teachers. He began his career in education as a teaching principal and then joined the science faculty of the Bethlehem Central School district. For the past 29 years he was district superintendent of the Second Supervisory District of Albany county, which since 1963 has also included 80 percent of the Schoharie county public schools.

Mr. Briggs has been active as a member of the State Teachers association, State School District Administrators association, and the Schoharie County Principals and School Board association. He was a member of the Reformed church of Delmar, Berne Lodge No. 684, F&AM. and a life member and past president of the Town of Westerlo Volunteer Fire Co.

Rev. Roland L. Miller of the Westerlo Baptist church and Rev. Robert Fitzgerald of Moravia, a former pastor of the church, officiated at the funeral service held at Westerlo Baptist church Sunday afternoon. Interment was in the Westerlo Rural cemetery.

Masonic service was held at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville Staurday at 7:30 p.m. and a service by the Town of Westerlo Volunteer Fire Co. at 8:30 p.m.

His wife, the former Lucille Hannay of Westerlo, survives. A sister, Ethel Briggs, pre-deceased him.
