Birth

George W. Swartout, son of Miner C. Swartout and Susanna Cornish, was born in Rensselaerville, June 14, 1834. He was a brother of Alexander Swartwout.

Marriage & Children

George married Caroline Rugg on November 18, 1860 in Greene County, NY. They had one child:

  • Georgiana Swartout born April 30, 1863 in Medusa, attended by Dr. Isaac Finch

Caroline married secondly, William Robinson and removed to Michigan. William died in 1907 and Caroline was again widowed.

George died from Typhoid fever. Caroline Rugg Swartout Robinson died on January 31, 1918 at Marion, MI.

Heroes of Albany County

"George Swartwout, son of Miner C. and Susanna Cornish Swartwout, was born in Rensselaerville, June 14, 1844. He enlisted in October, 1862, at Albany. After going to the front, he lived three months and then was taken sick with typhoid fever. He died at Falmouth, Virginia, and was buried there."
