Additional Research Notes

Charles was one of two runaway slaves that came to Rensselaerville and enlisted in the 26th US Colored Troops. Each left Rensselaerville at the close of the war when there was no longer fear of being captured and returned to their masters. While Toliver Holmes remained in New York and lived out his life, nothing further could be learned about Charles.
