George Knowles was born in Rensselaerville on March 29, 1833, a son of Ebenezer Knowles and Elizabeth Martin. [1]

George married in Greene County, NY at about 1858, Catherine Simpkins who was born on July 25, 1838, a daughter of Truman Simpkins and Sarah Powell. They had the following children:
