Birth

Solomon Huyck was born September 1, 1770 in Schodack, Rensselaer County, NY to Johannes A. Huyck (B. 1749) and Sophia Fitje Van DerKarr (B. Jan 12, 1732).[1][2][3] He was baptized on September 22, 1770 at the Old Dutch Reformed Church in Schodack.[1]

Military

Solomon grew up during the Revolutionary War. In 1811, he was appointed the Captain of the Militia in Albany County by the New York State Governor Tompkins serving under Colonel John T. Van Dalfsew.[4]

Marriage & Children

On July 10, 1791 in Kinderhook, Columbia County, NY, he married Mary McClure, who was born December 7, 1771.[1][2][3] They had the following children:

Life

Solomon Huyck was born in Schodack, Rensselaer County, NY and married in nearby Kinderhook, Columbia County, NY. For several years, he and his family continued to live in Rensselaer County as demonstrated by the baptism of his son Daniel. However by the 1810 US Census, he was recorded as living in Coeymans, Albany County, NY and was living next to William McClure. Then by 1830, he was living in Westerlo, Albany County. On June 18, 1835, "Polly Huyck, wife of Solomon" inherited from the estate of Jacobus Folmsbee of Schodack.[6]

Death

Solomon died on June 15, 1848 at his home in Westerlo.[1] His wife Mary died on Sept 16, 1851 in Westerlo.[2] Solomon's death was recorded in the Index to testators for Albany County in Volume 13 page 340.[7]
