Birth
Obadiah was born at about 1794 in Dutchess County, NY.[1]
Marriage & Children
At about 1814 he married Sally Green who was born at about 1796 a daughter of John Green. [2]Their known children:
- Frederick Colwell
- Ransom O. Colwell
- Thomas Colwell
- Henry Colwell
- John G. Colwell
On September 16, 1834 at Westerlo, he married Phebe Prosser who was born at about 1802, a daughter of Benjamin Prosser and Catherine Wendell. Their children:
- Mary Jane Colwell. She married Robert Barclay Bedell
- Benjamin Colwell
- Catherine M. Colwell
- Elizabeth M. Colwell
- Adelbert Colwell
Military
Obadiah enlisted on September 7, 1814 as a private in Captain A. Van Derzee’s Company in the New York Infantry. He served his term and was discharged on December 8, 1814.
Death
Sally Green Colwell died at about 1833. Obadiah died on August 10, 1862. Phebe Prosser Colwell died at about 1888.
