Gideon M. Young was born on September 15, 1858 in Broome, Schoharie County, NY to Moses Young and his wife Lucinda Haskins.[1].[2] He was apparently the youngest child of his family.

In about 1879, Gideon married a woman named Louisa Van Tassel's whose parentage is unknown.[3][4] She was two years younger than he having been born June 27, 1860.

They had the following children:

Life

Gideon was born in Broome, where he was recorded in the 1860 Census living with his parents Moses and Lucinda, and his older siblings.[2] They lived next to his maternal grandparents Obadiah Haskins and Elizabeth Bull. Gideon's father Moses Young died shortly after this census was taken on February 14, 1861. His mother Lucinda remarried a man named Benjamin Smith and in the 1870 US Census for Broome, Gideon and several of his siblings were mis-recorded as Smiths.[6] At the time, Gideon was age 11 and at school. Two of his older brothers were living with their maternal grandfather Obadiah Haskins. By Benjamin Smith, Gideon had at least one half brother named Emmerett.

In about 1879, Gideon married Louisa Van Tassel, and in 1880 they were living with his mother Lucinda and stepfather Benjamin Smith.[4] By 1900 Gideon and Louisa had moved to Rensselaerville, Albany County with several of their children.[5]

Death

Gideon died first on September 3, 1916 and he was buried at the Onesquethaw Cemetery in Clarksville, Albany County, NY.[1] His wife Louisa died over a decade later on August 16, 1932 and she was buried with her husband at Onesquethaw Cemetery.[1]
