KNOX — An avid hunter and beloved father and grandfather, Lewis Tubbs was a careful groundskeeper of the Knox Little League field.

Lewis “Lew” Tubbs died after a brief illness on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Albany Medical Center. He was 78.

“Lew will be remembered by many as a Little League coach, avid hunter, an extremely hard worker and, just simply, a friend,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He could always be found tinkering in his garage, working in the ballpark, or just relaxing on his front porch at the day’s end."

Mr. Tubbs was married to Charlotte Tubbs, their union ending only with her death in 2011.

“He took great pride in being the groundskeeper of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Little League field. He spent countless hours making sure it was groomed perfectly.

“His front porch was often the gathering place for his many friends, neighbors, and family. He loved nothing more than engaging in good conversation that often included his many hunting stories.

“Lew was a multi-talented individual who was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever he could. He was always thinking of other people. He was a great influence to all who knew him. He loved to share his vast knowledge with anyone interested in listening (mainly his son-in-law Tom).

“He worked for several small construction companies over the years and ended up working at the town of Knox transfer station, which he enjoyed immensely,” his family wrote. “He will be greatly missed by all.”
