Birth

Arthur was born on March 16, 1906, in New Scotland, Albany Co., N.Y. to William Rarick Slingerland (1882-1971) and Evangeline J. Fancher (1884-1963).[1]

Occupation

He worked for the Albany County Highway Department in addition to being a farmer.[1]

Marriage & Children

On October 27, 1928, Arthur married Cora Mabel Stewart[1], daughter of Peter Stewart and Helen Condon. They raised their four children in Westerlo:

Death

Arthur died on April 15, 1985, in Westerlo at 79 years of age. He was buried on April 18, in Westerlo Rural Cemetery in Westerlo.[1]

A.J. Slingerland Is Dead At 79

Arthur J. Slingerland of Westerlo, retired farmer and former Albany County Highway Department employee, died unexpectedly Monday, April 15. He was 79. He was born in New Scotland, son of the late William R. and Eva Fancher Slingerland. He was a member of the Westerlo Reformed Church. Survivors include his widow, the former Mabel Cora Stewart; two daughters, Norma (Mrs. Saturnino) D'Alfonsi of Metuchen, N.J. and Joan (Mrs. Charles) McDermott of Westerlo; two sons, James S. Slingerland of Westerlo and Ronald A. Slingerland of East Berne; a sister, Ethel (Mrs. William) Shultes of Athens (Greene Co.); a brother, Claude Slingerland of Camden, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18 from Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville (Greene Co.), Rev. Roger Krutz of Castleton, former pastor at Westerlo Reformed, officiated. Burial was in Westerlo Rural Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Slingerland's memory may be made to the Town of Westerlo Rescue Squad or Town of Westerlo Volunteer Fire Co., Westerlo, N.Y. 12193.
