Birth

Mr. Tatem was born on April 1, 1906,[1] in Old Westbury, Nassau County.[2]


Marriage and Children

George married Doris M. ______ and they had a daughter, Patricia A. Tatem.[2]


Occupation

Following the war, George worked for the Borden Ice Cream Co. as a route salesman on Long Island for more than 35 years. Mr. Tatem retired in 1990 from Nassau County BOCES after 20 years as a driver.[2]


Military Service

Mr. Tatem was a Navy veteran of World War II.[2]


Death

George died Thursday, December 21, 1995, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, New York.[2]

EAST BERNE George J. Tatem, 89, died Thursday at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. Mr. Tatem was born in Old Westbury, Nassau County. He lived in Merrick, Nassau County, before moving to East Berne in 1995. Mr. Tatem was a Navy veteran of World War II. Following the war, he worked for the Borden Ice Cream Co. as a route salesman on Long Island for more than 35 years. Mr. Tatem retired in 1990 from Nassau County BOCES after 20 years as a driver. He was a former member of the North Bellmore American Legion Post. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Merrick. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Doris M. Tatem; a daughter, Patricia A. Gardineer of East Berne; a brother, Francis Tatem of Hicksville, Nassau County; a sister, Peggy Nordin of Syosset, Nassau County; and two grandsons. A service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont. Calling hours will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2232 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY 12084.
