John Bell was born on March 23, 1798, a son of Johan Michael Bell and Maria Truax[1]

He married at Berne, NY at about 1818, Charity Pierce who was born in 1802. [1] They had the following children:

- Louisa Matilda Bell, born July 27, 1824[1]
- Charles Henry Bell, born November 15, 1826[1]
- Charity Maria Bell, born February 18, 1829[1]
- John Michael Bell, born May 11, 1831[1], a Civil War soldier
- Nathan Dewey Bell, born November 23, 1833[1]
- Edmund Bell, born 1836. Died in the Civil War[1]
- Celinda E. Bell, born in 1839[1]
- William Perry Bell, born 1843[1], a Civil War soldier
- Armida Bell, born 1847[1]

John was a turner earlier on and later a mechanic
