Birth
John was born in 1755
Military
In May or June of 1775, John enlisted at Stephentown, NY in Colonel Van Schaick’s regiment under Captain Joel Pratt after serving for a period of about 9 months, he was taken sick and returned home but returned to duty and completed his term of enlistment. In June of 1778 he enlisted as a Private for a term of 9 months in the Rhode Island militia at Suffield, CT. He served under Captain Nathan Alney in Colonel Crary’s regiment. He received his discharge in August of 1778.
Marriage & Children
In 1781 he married Thankful Darling who was born on July 26, 1756 at Dover, Dutchess Co., NY. Their known child was:
- Ezra Preston who was born on November 4, 1784
Death
Thankful died on December 10, 1837 in Albany County, NY. John died on December 30, 1841 in Westerlo and was buried at the Westerlo Rural Cemetery in Westerlo.
