Birth

John Kelsey was born at about 1760. He lived in New Paltz, Ulster Co., NY.

Military

He enlisted as a private from New Paltz, Ulster County, NY in the fall of 1778 and served until the Pring of 1779 for a total of 10 months. He served under Captain Ranons and Captain Dunscomb in Colonel Wisenfelt and General Sullivan’s Regiment. His duties were primarily guarding the lines. He wasn’t engaged in any major battles. It appears from the deposition of Jonas Kelsey, that he was a cousin to him.
