BERNE — '''Sarah Weidman Bassler''', 91, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001.

She was born in Berne and was a lifelong resident. Sarah was a talented seamstress, and her family will always treasure her hand-sewn crafts. She was famous for growing African violets and still tended her many flower gardens every year.

Survivors include a two daughters, Eleanor Bassler of Palo Alto, Calif., Ruth (Mrs. R. Timothy) Lomasney of Gales Ferry, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred Peter and Janice Bassler of Berne; a daughter-in-law, Chrystal Bassler, of Berne; six grandchildren: Terrice Bassler of Capetown, South Africa, Debra Bajouwa of Michigan, Mark and Gary Lomasney of Connecticut, Sharon Forman of Altamont and James Lyon of Ballston Spa; and six great-grandchildren: Sarah, Abigail, Joseph, Megan, Anthony and Clea.

Her husband, Peter C. Bassler, whom she married Dec. 16, 1930, is deceased, as is a son, John Bassler of Berne. A funeral service will be held at noon Friday at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial will be in the spring in [[Woodlawn Cemetery|Woodlawn Cemetery]], Berne.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1275 Broadway, Albany, NY 12204 or the Berne Historical Society, Berne, NY 12023.

BERNE -- Sarah Weidman Bassler, 91, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. She was born in Berne and was a lifelong resident. Sarah was a talented seamstress and her family will always treasure her hand-sewn crafts. She was famous for growing African violets and still tended her many flower gardens every year. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter C. Bassler, whom she married on December 16, 1930. She was the devoted mother of Eleanor Bassler of Palo Alto, CA, Ruth Lomasney and her husband, R. Timothy of Gales Ferry, CT and Fred Peter Bassler and his wife, Janice of Berne; cherished grandmother of Terrice Bassler of Capetown, South Africa, Debra Bajouwa of Michigan, Mark and Gary Lomasney of Connecticut, Sharon Forman of Altamont and James Lyon of Ballston Spa; and loving great-grandmother of Sarah, Abigail, Joseph, Megan, Anthony and Clea.
