==Birth==
Solomon was born on October 8, 1849 at Kingston, Ulster County, NY a son of Teunis and Elsjie Dumond Van Benscoten. <ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref>
==Occupation==
He was a farmer
==Military==
Due to the lack of surviving Revolutionary War service records, and the fact that he did not survive to apply for the pension offered well after the close of the war, no detailed account of his service can be offered. His name appeared on the list of soldiers paid by Captain Evert Bogardus of Snyder’s Regiment on April 7, 1777 of Ulster County, NY. He likely received land-bounty.
==Marriage & Children==
He married at about 1777 at Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY Margaret Van Auken who was born at about 1749. They had the following known children:
*Elsje Van Benscoten b. October 29, 1779, married [[John Groat]]
*[[Abner Van Benscoten]] b. December 30, 1781, married Gertrude Ward
*Peter Van Benscoten b. November 28, 1783, married Maria Sitterly
*Sarah Van Benscoten b. December 28, 1785, married Petrus Van Auken
*Magdalena Van Benscoten b. about 1787, married Isaac Sitterly
*Mary Van Benscoten , birth date unknown, married ______Becker and was widowed before 1811.
Soloman brought his family and settled in a section of Berne that became Knox.
==Death==
Solomon died shortly prior to October 24, 1811. He was buried in his family’s private burial ground in Knox, Albany Co., NY. He was survived by his wife.
