==Birth==
Jacob Peter Turner was born September 17, 1865, on the family farm near [[West Township]], in [[Knox]]. He had been named after his grandfathers [[Jacob Kniskern]] and [[Peter Turner]]. His parents were [[William L. Turner]] and [[Catharine Kniskern.]] He later became known as Jay P. Turner. He spent his early life on that farm learning to farm with his father. At age 12, his family moved to a farm in [[Knox]] near the village of [[Berne]] on Francis Road where he continued to help his father. When his father died on December 18, 1893, Jacob inherited the farm.

Jay was educated in the local schools.

==Occupation==
He was a farmer.

==Marriage & Children==
On November 19, 1889 Jacob married [[Ella Miller]] at her family's farm on Irish Hill. She was the daughter of [[Luther Miller]] and [[Harriet E. Haverly]]. Jay and Ella had one child:

*[[Alice Minnie Turner]] - She was named for two her two deceased aunts Alice Turner and Minnie Miller.

==Death==
Jay died on March 2 1842. He was buried in the [[Berne and Beaverdam Cemetery]] in [[Berne]].

''Funeral services for the late Jay P. Turner, who died March 2, at the age of 76, were held at the Brunk Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Raymond J. Pontier, pastor of the Reformed Church officiating. Of English descent, Mr. Turner was the son of William Turner, who came to this country in early boyhood. When he married Catharine Kniskern he established a home in the Town of Knox and there reared a family of six children, five daughters and one son, Jay. To this home in later years, Jay brought his young wife, Ella Miller, and there on Nov. 20 1941, they observed their 52nd. wedding anniversary. Mr. Turner was a man of strong character whose dearest interests centered in his home, but his deeply religious nature was strengthened and developed in his church life. For years a member of the Reformed Church of Berne, serving in the consistory as a deacon and later as elder, he was rarely absent from church service until ill health prevented his attendance. He was also for years a teacher in the Sunday school. His wife survives him, also one daughter, Mrs. Alice Francis, four grandchildren, Jay, Andrew, Mary and Ruth; also one sister, Mrs. Edward Zeh of Albany.''
