The first two papers are part of a fascinating story. "As recently as the 1920’s, when the property (62 acres in downtown New York City) was then considered to be worth “billions”, some descendants were still attempting to obtain a favourable settlement from the courts, having been denied restitution in preceeding generations. Nationwide ‘Anneke Jans Bogardus Heirs Association” chapters were established to help finance the legal costs involved, and questionable lawyers obtained millions of dollars from gullible, presumed descendants, on the basis of undocumented or dubious genealogical evidence. Of course, none of the lawsuits were ever settled in favour of the descendant “heirs”. fn reviewing the facts again today, however, one could conclude that the heirs of Anneke Jans were treated unfairly, but it is also plainly clear that no such lawsuit should ever be initiated again because of the finality of the court judgements that were previously rendered."

POWER OF REPRESENTATIVE

I, Elva Truax of Town of Bethlehem, Albany County, New York do
appoint Frank A. Traver of Troy, New York to represent me as a legal heir
to the Anneke Jans Bogardus Estate, situated in New York, and Harlem
and Van Voorheis in Holland, Europe involving real and personal.

First: That the party of the first part is desirous of having her claim to
the above named Estates proven and settled.

Second: That the party of the second part agrees to look after the
interest of the party of the first part, and all his findings to be in the
interest of the above named Estates in any of the courts of U. S. A. as I
would do myself if personally present.

Third: In compensation for services of proving claims and looking after
the interest of the party of the first part, the party of the first part
agrees to pay to the party of the second part five per cent (5%) of all
money paid to the party of the first part in settlement of the above
named Estates, whether in full payments or in parts, by comprise,
adjustment or settlement of such claims as heir to the above named
Estates.

Therefore, I am giving and granting unto Frank A. Traver, my
representative, full power and authority to do and perform all and every
act and thing whatsoever requisite and necessary to be done in and
about the proving and settling of said Estates, as I might or would do
myself if personally present, with full power of substitution and
revocation; hereby ratifying and confirming all that my representative or
substitute shall lawfully do or cause to be done by virtue hereof.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27 day
of Oct 1928.

Pedigree of Elva Truax, an heir to the Estates of Anneke Jans Bogardus
and Van Voorheis and Harlem Estates in Holland, Europe and New York,
U. S. A.

Anneke Jans Webber was born in the King's mansion in Holland in the
year 1605. She was first married to John Roeloffson in the year 1623.
They had the following children:

1. Sara Roeloffson born December 3, 1624. 
2. Catharine Roeloffson born September 7, 1626. 
3. Frytzie Roeloffson born November 9, 1629. 
4. John Roeloffson born December 5, 1636. 

John Roeloffson, Senior died in New Harlem, now New York in 1637
and Anneke Roeloffson, his widow, married her second husband the
Reverend Everardus Bogardus in the year 1638. They had the following
children:

1. William Bogardus born December 15, 1639. 
2. Cornelius Bogardus born September 9, 1640. 
3. Johnas Bogardus born January 4, 1643. 
4. Peter Bogardus born April 4, 1645.

Frytzie Roeloffson of the first generation, born November 9, 1629,
married Peter Van Wie Hartgers.

They had a family, one of whom was a daughter Rachel De Hartgers,
born in Holland (date unknown), married Hendrick Bloom in 1656. She
was of the second generation.

They had a daughter Angelica Bloom, born in 1657, married Adam
Vrooman in 1677. She was of the third generation.

They had a daughter Christina Vrooman, baptized October 18, 1685,
married Teunis Swart October 30, 1710. She was of the fourth generation.

They had a son Adam Swart, baptized July 12, 1718, married Catharina
Van Petten December 23, 1742. He was of the fifth generation.

They had a son Teunis Swart, baptized November 4, 1744, married
Margarita Mydetse September 22, 1767. He was of the sixth generation.

They had a son Johannes Swart, baptized December 22, 1776, married
Eva Leib (or Leip) January 30, 1797. He was of the seventh generation.

They had a daughter Mary E. Swart, born November 6, 1800, married
Jacob H. Saddlemire November 6, 1818. She was of the eighth
generation.

They had a daughter Esther Saddlemire, born December 16, 1821,
married Josiah Haverly June 24, 1852. She was of the ninth generation.

They had a daughter Elva Haverly, born November 7, 1864, married
William Truax December 22, 1887. She is of the tenth generation.

This pedigree proven and compiled for Elva (Mrs. William) Truax, one
of the legal heirs to the Van Voorheis and Harlem Estates in Holland,
Europe and Anneke Jans Bogardus Estates in New York, U. S. A.

Anneke Jans Bogardus was the daughter of Wolfert Webber, the fourth
king of Holland.

My dear Mrs. Traver,

I am enclosing the papers which you sent me some time ago. I trust
they are in proper shape at last.You may be interested in hearing that I wrote the Treasury Dept. at
Washington making inquiry about the new customs house and they
replied that the transfer of title to said property would be made within
the next few weeks. Apparently something will be doing soon. They said
the matter was in the hands of the Dept. of Justice. It would seem that
it is the concern of the courts. Perhaps I shall be run up to Troy to see
you sometime in the near future.
