STEVENS—December 19, 1970, Daniel Webster Stevens, Knox, New York, husband of Edna Mae Quay; father of Raymond, Marshall and Margaret Stevens of Knox and Mrs. Marshall Clickmon of Altamont and the late Mildred Weidman; brother of Mrs. Minnie Hunt of Memphis, Tennessee and Mrs. Mary Adams of Altamont. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services from Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Peter Barry, officiating. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be mode to the Knox Reformed Church Building Fund.

Daniel Webster Stevens, born in the Town of Knox in 1884, died Saturday, December 19. He was one of 12 children born to Clarence and Elizabeth Saddlemire Stevens.

The early part of Webb's life was spent working at what was then known as the speculating business - buying meat and produce from farmers and peddling it in cities with a horse and wagon. Later he changed to the Model T. Ford, which also served as the "Jitney," carrying Know residents to and from the train station in Altamont.

In 1931 he purchased what was then the village blacksmith's shop in Knox, remodeling it into a home and opening a gas station where he lived until the time of his death. Many area residents can recall stopping in to have a soda or ice cream, and meeting Webb and friends on the front porch.

Webb, as he was known to his many friends, was always interested in town politics, and served as a chairman of the Republican Committee of the Town of Knox for 18 years, from the late 1020's through the early 1940's.

He is survived by his wife Edna Quay Sevens; two sons, Raymond and Marshall; Two daughters, Margaret Stevens and Virginia Clickman; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grand-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. A. P. Hunt of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Byron Adams, Star Route, Altamont, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday,m Dec. 22, at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont, with the Rev. Peter W. Berry officiating.
