In the 1850 Census for Berne, George was recorded as 4 years of age and he was living with his parents and siblings.<ref name="1850Census">1850 US Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref> A decade later, he was living with [[Denison Crary]] and his wife Henrietta M. Crary in Knox, Albany County, NY and attending school.<ref name="1860Census">1860 US Census, Knox, Albany Co, NY</ref> It is from them that he obviously got the alias he used during the Civil War.

==Death==
George died in 1926 and was buried at the [[Berne and Beaverdam Cemetery|Berne and Beaverdam Cemetery]] in Berne, Albany Co, NY.<ref name="Beaverdam"/> Also at this cemetery are both of his wives and several of his children.<ref name="Beaverdam"/>
