Alexander Sornberger was born in 1827 in Schoharie County, NY to Seymour Sornberger Sr. (B. March 23, 1805, D. March 16, 1879) and his wife Sarah Hallenbeck (b. Aug 17, 1805,d. I have not found Alexander in the 1850 or 1860 censuses, however his parents and siblings can be found in these censuses living in Franklinton, Broome Twp, Schoharie Co, NY.<ref name="1850Census">1850 US Census, Franklinton, Broome, Schoharie Co, NY</ref> ><ref name="1860Census">1860 US Census, Franklinton, Broome, Schoharie Co, NY</ref> In the 1870 US Census, Alexander and Susan were living in Westerlo with his sister [[Charlotte Sornberger]] Bell and her son [[Ernest Bell]].<ref name="1870Census">1870 US Census, Westerlo, Albany Co, NY</ref> Alexander was working as a blacksmith.<ref name="1870Census"/> By the 1880 Census, Alexander had moved back to Franklinton and was living with his sister Lydia Simkins and her family, and next to his brother Lawrence. Alexander and Lawrence were both recorded as blacksmiths.<ref name="1880Census"/> On March 1, 1890, Alexander filed for his Civil War pension.<ref name="Pension">Civil War Pension Index, www.ancestry.com</ref> He was later recorded in the 1890 US Veterans Census in Broome, Schoharie County.
