Roland (Ron) was born in Rensselaerville on March 11, 1929, to William and Ada (Hoose) Smith.

Ron was a truck driver for Standard Block and later retired in 1991 from Fort Edward Express with over 30 years of service.

Roland died Sunday, October 24, 2004 surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Interment was in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie New York on October 27, 2004.

RENSSELAER -- Roland C. Smith, 75, died Sunday, October 24, 2004 surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born in Rensselaerville, he had been a resident of Rensselaer his entire life. Ron was a truck driver for Standard Block and later retired in 1991 from Fort Edward Express with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters and of Rensselaer Kiwanis. Ron was also a Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his parents William and Ada (Hoose) Smith and his wife June E. Smith who died October 15, 2004. Survivors include four daughters, Deborah (Bob) Schrimsher of Rensselaer, Kathyleen (Don) Ganser of Latham, Kimberly (Mark) Meister of Scotia, Lauraine Kimball of North Creek; two sons, Michael (Karol) O'Sullivan of Averill Park and Larry Kimball of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Lauralee (Phil) Pierson of Rensselaerville; two brothers, Thomas Smith of Mass. and James (Joy) Smith of Rensselaer; 10 grandchildren, Michael Jr., Shannon, Heidi, Bobby, Robin, Joe, Nicole, Laura and Jen, and six step-grandchildren. Ron is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral 11:00 a.m. Wednesday from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie. The family has requested that those who wish to remember Roland make contribution to American Lung Association, 3 Winners Circle, Albany, NY 12205 in his memory.
