Daniel was born on September 22, 1756 at Haverstraw, Orange County, NY, a son of John Secor and Maria Gerow. <ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> His siblings were:

Daniel served in the Revolutionary War as a drummer with Cooper's NY Militia regiment. He appeared on the payroll listings for Colonel Cooper’s regiment in 1782 along with Sgt. James Secor and Andrew Secor. The term of his enlistment or whether or not he had numerous enlistments is not available.

Daniel married in Rockland County, NY in 1778, Margaret Van Horn who was born in 1758, a daughter of Mathias Van Horn and Eleanor Krom. <ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> Daniel and his family settled in Berne at about 1780. <ref name="Landmarks of Albany County, New York"> Landmarks of Albany county, New York, Edited by Amasa J. Margaret died onFebruary 19, 1826. Daniel died on March 21, 1829. Both are buried at the Lake Rural Cemetery in East Berne, NY. <ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref>

Secor, Benjamin M., of Huguenot descent, was born October 27, 1834, in the town of Berne, Albany county, where his father, Daniel, was born October 18, 1804.

his son Cornelius lived and died there and was a colonel in the State militia.

Daniel, son of Cornelius, married Cornelia Van Zandt and died June 22, 1879.

Benjamin M. Secor was reared on a farm and received his education in his native town and Warnerville Seminary. He remained on the farm and clerked in country stores until 1866, when he came to Albany and engaged in the retail clothing business with L. D. Hutchins. In 1870 he became a clerk for R. C. Davis & Co. and so continued till January, 1878, when he entered the employ of the late C. G. Craft; January, 1890, he became a partner in the firm of C. G. Craft & Co. Mr. Craft died March 13, 1890, and since then Mr. Secor and Joseph D. Chapin have continued the business under the old firm name. Mr. Secor is vice-president in the Albany, Helderberg and Schoharie Railway Company, member of Temple Lodge, F. & A. M., and has lived in the Thirteenth ward about thirty years. In 1858 he married Arvilla Strevell of Berne, and they have five children; Effie J., Elva. Laura M., Daniel and Ida A.
