Henry Post was born August 29, 1839 in Wright, Schoharie County, NY to [[John J. Post]] (B. Aug 3, 1798, D. May 3, 1848) and [[Maria Ecker]] (B. Jan 24, 1802, D. Jan 18, 1864).<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> He was one of seven children.<ref name="Bernehistory"/>

In 1855 Henry at the age of 15 years was working as a farm laborer for [[Henry William Weidman]] (B. Sept 29, 1820, D. Apr 29, 1900) and his wife [[Elizabeth Cass]] (B. Oct 16, 1823, D.
