Civil War records at the time of his enlistment say that he was living in NYC at the time and working as a laborer. Why he enlisted in a Massachusetts regiment is unknown. ==Life==
George worked as a farmer first with his father and brothers. After he married, he continued farming.<ref name="1860Census"/> The 1860s were a tough time for George. First his two young daughters died and then in June of 1864 his younger brother William.<ref name="Bernehistory"/><ref name="Beaverdam"/> After returning from the Civil War, George's wife Sabrina died on April 14, 1866.<ref name="Bernehistory"/> <ref name="Beaverdam"/> George had her buried at [[Beaverdam Cemetery]] in Berne where his two young daughters and brother William were buried.<ref name="Bernehistory"/><ref name="Beaverdam"/>

At the end of his life he lived with his son Fletcher in Berne where they both were farmers.<ref name="1905Census"/><ref name="1910Census">1910 US Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref>
