Seymour J. Palmer was born in Westerlo on April 11, 1840, a son of [[Ira Palmer]] and Charlotte Weisgerber. <ref name="Berne History">Berne NY Family files, www.bernehistory.org </ref> He was a grandson of [[Seymour Palmer]], a War of 1812 soldier.

Seymour was married three times.

==His life==
Like his father, Seymour was a farmer. He remained very close to his father and joined the same regiment in the Civil War, at the same time. He was a colorful character, sporting a beard that reached his knees, something that his great grandchildren still remember about him.
