He was a farmer and now owns the 200 acre farm that was once his father’s. He was a Democrat in politics and has been assessor nine years. He was a member of Cascade Lodge, No. 42, F. & A. M.<ref name="Landmarks"/>

Luther married Minerva Tanner of Rensselaerville in 1857. They had 3 children:
