Edwin R. ==Life==
Edwin McNary lived in the village of East Berne where he owned his own home.<ref name="USCensus">U.S. Censuses</ref> He worked as a farmer and also as a carpenter to support his family.<ref name="USCensus"/> Edwin was a Lutheran and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and politically was a Democrat.<ref name="AltamontEnter">[[Altamont Enterprise|Altamont Enterprise]], Altamont, NY, no date of publication on page.</ref> In 1880 his father Elijah lived with Edwin and his family in the Town of Bethlehem.<ref name="USCensus"/>

Edwin's wife Eliza died on November 8, 1906 and she was buried at the Knox Cemetery in Knox.<ref name="Bernehistory"/> Edwin died just over a year later on Thursday January 2, 1908 and he was buried with his wife at [[Knox Cemetery|Knox Cemetery]].<ref name="Bernehistory"/><ref name="AltamontEnter"/> Their daughter Margaret also died in 1908.<ref name="Bernehistory"/>

EAST BERNE Edward McNary, an old and respected resident of our community, passed away Thursday morning, Jan 2nd. He had been in poor health for some time but not until he fell in the woods recently and injured himself was his illness considered fatal. Mr. McNary was a veteran of the Civil War and had made his home in this vicinity for many years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of this village, a staunch Democrat and a kind friend and good neighbor to all. The funeral was held at his late home in the village, Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Rev. DeGraaf, of Berne, preached the sermon. Interment at Knox. Mr. McNary’s wife died about a year ago and he leaves one daughter, two brothers, and many friends to mourn his loss.
