George F. Karker was born in about 1837 in Wright, Schoharie Co, NY to [[Isaac Karker]] (B. abt 1815, D. unk) and his wife Eliza.<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> His Karker ancestors were among the first settlers of Carlisle, Schoharie County.

Before 1862, George married a woman named Elizabeth A., whose maiden name is unknown.<ref name="Bernehistory"/> She was several years younger than he, having been born in about 1842.<ref name="Bernehistory"/>
