==Birth==
Nathan was born in 1754 at East Hampton in Long Island, NY a son of Captain Nathan Dayton and Phebe Mulford. His known siblings:

==Military==
He served in the revolutionary war, enlisting in March or April, 1776, as private in Captain John Davis's company, Colonel Henry B. Livingston's regiment, New York militia, served nine months. He drew a revolutionary pension, see below.

==Marriage & Children==
At about 1778 he married Mehatable Hutchinson who was born at about 1759 in Southold in Long Island, NY a daughter of Dr. Samuel Hutchinson and Hannah Tuthill. Nathan and Mehatable had 12 children, their known children:
*Hannah Dayton born about 1779, died in 1825 at Johnstown, Fulton Co., NY
*Nathan Dayton, Jr. was born at about 1780 and died in 1813 in Rensselaerville.
*Abraham Dayton was born about 1785, he married Elizabeth Hedges, one son, William H. Dayton born about 1817
*Samuel H. Dayton was born in 1790, he married Sarah Searles Crary (his step-sister)a daughter of Nathan and Ruth Crary
*Elias Dayton was born about 1792, died November 22, 1866
*Lewis M. Dayton was born at about 1793
*Phebe Dayton was born at about 1795, she died in 1846 unmarried
*Maria Dayton
*Henry Dayton was born at about 1797, married Electa Crane
*Helen Dayton
*Eliza C. Dayton born about 1802, married Heman Crocker

Nathan married secondly, Ruth, the widow of Nathan Crary who was born in Mystic CT.

==Occupation==
He was a farmer.

==Death==
Mehatable died on June 4, 1803 in Rensselaerville. She was buried at the Town Line Cemetery in Westerlo. Nathan died on October 26, 1842 at Rensselaerville, NY.

In her will, she names all of her surviving siblings.
