Harrison Champenois was was born 1840 in Berne, the son of [[John Champenois Jr.]] (B. June 8, 1816, D. Mar 22, 1883) and his wife Maria.<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> Harrison had one older sister [[Eliza Catharine Chamenois]].<ref name="Bernehistory"/> His mother Maria died before 1847.<ref name="Bernehistory"/>

==Early life==
He appeared on the census of 1850 with his grandmother [[Catharine Sternberger]] Shultes Champenois in the
