Delinton Brate was born June 20, 1845 in Reidsville to [[William Brate]] (B. May 6, 1810, D. Oct 2, 1887) and [[Angeline Smith]] (B. abt 1809, D. Dec 25, 1875).<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> He was one of nine children.
