He was a farmer by occupation and a Democrat in politics, and held the office of highway commissioner. <ref name="Landmarks of Albany County, New York"/>


==Marriage & Children== 
He married Hannah E. Reinhart of Schoharie county, N. Y., a daughter of John J. Reinhart, an early settler of Rensselaerville on March 30, 1852 at the Beaverdam Dutch Reformed Church in Berne, NY.<br> To Mr. Mackey and wife were born two sons and one daughter who grew to man and womanhood:
