Birth
Isaac Laraway was born in January of 1761 in Greene County, NY, he was christened on March 6, 1761 at the Catskill Reformed Church in Catskill, Greene Co., NY, a son of Jonas Laraway and Elizabeth Muller. They lived at Beaverdam from the time that Isaac was about 12 years old [1]. Isaac’s siblings were[2]:

- Jacob Laraway b. 1765 married Elizabeth Murray
- Peter Laraway b. 1767 married Elizabeth Smith
- David Laraway b. 1770
Military
Isaac entered the service and enlisted in Beaverdam now the town of Bern in a company commanded by Capt. Hamtramck in the 5th New York regiment commanded by Col. Dubois on May 5, 1779 for the term of nine months, and immediately marched to Albany for a short term, from there was marched to Johnstown where he stayed about 3 weeks and then was marched as far as the City of Schenectady. There they went on boats and up the Mohawk River to near the Little Falls, then marched to Cooperstown and on to Tioga Point. There he joined the army under the command of Gen. Sullivan. With Gen. Sullivan’s army they marched to the western part of NY on an expedition against the Indians up to near 40 miles of Niagara Falls. From there, they marched through PA and through Morristown in NJ where he was discharged on January 1, 1780. He returned to Beaver dam.
He again entered the service at Beaverdam and enlisted in Capt. Gray’s and Col. Van Schaick’s company on April 1, 1782 for the term of 9 months and was immediately marched to Schoharie and was stationed at the Middle Ford and did garrison duty until the end of this term. He was honorably discharged at the City of Schenectady on January 1, 1783. He served as a private through both enlistments. [1]
Marriage and Children
On December 11, 1787 at the Reformed Church at Beaver Dam, Isaac married Maria Post who was born in 1762 at Beaver Dam, a daughter of Henry Post and Margaret Legg[2] . They had the following children:
- John Laraway born June 30, 1788
- Rachel Laraway born April 30, 1791
- Henry Burgess Laraway born May 18, 1799
- Jacob J. Laraway born May 18, 1799
- Peter Laraway born November 30, 1802
Death
Isaac died on February 23, 1858. [3]
