Birth

Johannes Bogardus was born in 1781, a son of Ephraim Bogardus (1751-1838) and Maria Huyck[1]

Marriage & Children

He married on January 30, 1803, Anna Dietz , born on or about October 27, 1754, a daughter of Adam H. Dietz, Jr. and Anna Bellinger[1] and had the following known children:

  • Adam Bogardus, born on August 21, 1803, no further record[1]
  • Maria Bogardus, born in 1805, married John Ecker[1]
  • Elizabeth Bogardus, born in 1807, married Richard Rowe[1]
  • Catherine Bogardus, born about 1810, no further record[1]
  • Cornelia Bogardus, born July 27, 1813, married Joseph P. Dietz[1]
  • Margaret Bogardus, born October 17, 1816, married John Spencer[1]
  • Ephraim Bogardus, born November 30, 1818, married Margaret Coonley[1]
  • Barbara Bogardus, born January 16, 1821, married Peter Ball[1]
  • Sophia Bogardus, born 1823, married Albert Miller[1]
  • Caroline Bogardus, born about 1825, married Adam M. Bogardus[1]
  • John Jost Bogardus, born May 16, 1829, married Martha Engle, died in the Civil War[1]

His life

He was a prominent man of the Town of Berne, and was one of the pioneers. He served as supervisor.

Johannes served as a private in the War of 1812

Death

Johannes died on September 12, 1843, his wife died on October 8, 1860. [1]
