Isaac Dietz was born on October 12, 1839 to Elijah Deitz (B. Dec 29, 1818, D. Aug 10, 1869) and Nancy Mattice (B. Dec 2, 1819, D. Oct 10, 1859).[1] His middle initial has been recorded both as M. and as H. for Henry[1] . He was the oldest of six children.[1]

On September 29, 1864, he married Sophia Hydon in Wright, Schoharie County, NY.[1] She was born in about 1843 and was the daughter of Henry Hydon and his wife Rachel.[1]
